Holiday Survey

Hey guys! So I got this cute idea from PB Fingers, she did this holiday survey where she answered questions about her holiday traditions. I thought it was really cute and wanted to do it on here too. I also want to hear feedback on what you guys do! I love Christmas and the traditions that different families have, it’s my favorite holiday so I can’t contain my excitement that it’s almost here! =] Anyways, here we go!

25 Questions Holiday Style:

Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Both! I love the new Silk and So Delicious Nogs out for the season right now. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on top om nom. Also, heating up chocolate almond breeze is the most amazing substitute for hot chocolate I’ve found. Add marshmallows and I am sold.

Does Santa wrap presents or just put them under the tree?
Santa always wrapped presents in my house. My step sister and I always got our own wrapping paper too, so that we could tell which presents were ours every year. My parents would also knock over the tree, make dirty footprints, leave cookie crumbs and carrots bits all over the living room too to really make up believe that Santa had been there too. It was really cute. I will definitely be continuing that tradition.

Colored lights on tree/house or white?
At my Dad’s it was always colored lights on the tree and white lights on the outside. But I liked what my Mom did, which was white on the tree and white icicle lights on the outside. I’ve always been a bigger fan of white lights. My Mom also had an amazing little angel on top of the tree that I love putting on every year.

Do you hand mistletoe?
My Mom always does haha. She puts them all over the house, it can get pretty awkward when everyone is bustling around. =P But my Dad never really did the whole mistletoe thing. His decorations never really made it past the tree. My Mom went all out every single year haha.

When do you hang your decorations up?
We used to hang all of our decorations pretty much within the week after Thanksgiving. We used to make a big family to do out of it. It was really fun having Christmas music always playing, drinking some egg nog or hot chocolate, while decorating the entire house. Now that I have my own apartment my roommate and I waited till the first week of December to put up our tree, it has two ornaments. We were too poor to really decorate or do too much this year haha. We will make it way more exciting next year. =]

What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert):

Oh gosh this is so hard because desserts are all I ever think about during Christmas haha. I guess my favorites would definitely have to be my homemade stuffing and homemade cinnamon rolls in the morning.

Favorite holiday memory as a child?

My favorite holiday memory was when I came downstairs one year and the tree was tipped over and there were cookie crumbs and carrot bits everywhere. There were even muddy boot prints and I remember saying to my parents, “Oh wow Santa is so messy! If the reindeer were in here how come I didn’t hear them?!” Also, one year, my cousin dressed up like Santa and came over at 2 am and was really loud so I woke up thinking it was Santa and when I went out into the living room I saw him eating cookies and putting presents under the tree. I like freaked out and yelled SANTA?! And he turned around and told me to go back to bed or he couldn’t leave the presents. I literally had the hardest time believing people when I found out the truth haha. My family went to great lengths, it was so adorable.

What is on your Christmas wishlist?

The big, expensive item on my Christmas list was the Garmin Forerunner 405. I really want to get into training outside as soon as the weather warms up at the end of this winter to keep training for my half so I really wanted something that would help me keep track of my distance and pacing. Also, I would love a Rob Gronkowski Patriots jersey, and a new pair of running shoes. Preferably, the Nike Lunarglide 3+. =]

Do you open gifts on Christmas Eve?

This has kind of been a changing thing. Some years my step sister and I would give each other one of the gifts we got each other because we just couldn’t wait till the morning and other years we would open PJs. But I don’t think that’s happening this year, which is a little sad. Haha.

Snow? Love it or dread it?

I live in New England. So I have to love snow. I mean we get hammered every single year with Noreasters and stuff. So while I kind of hate it sometimes because my car is terrible in the snow and it can make getting to class and work really difficult I love it at the same time. Christmas is never complete without a little snow. Except I don’t think we are getting any this year, which makes me a tad sad.

Real or fake tree?

Currently I have a fake tree in my aparment haha. But I grew up my entire life with real trees and I love the smell of them. I especially love going with my family to pick it out and strap it to the car so we can go home and decorate all night. I miss that a lot and will start that up as soon as I graduate for next year. I am putting my roommate in the Christmas spirit with over decorating next year as compensation.

Do you remember your favorite gift?

Hmm… I think it was probably my Pandora bracelet to be honest. My Mom put a lot of thought and effort into picking it out with charms that meant something and every year she adds to it. It’s something that I rarely ever take off and it means a lot to me so that’s probably my favorite present of all time.

What’s the most important thing about Christmas for you?

Spending time with my family. I don’t get to see them enough throughout the year because everyone is so busy. But this is the one time everyone gets together and I love it. I am a big family person, I don’t know what I would do without my obnoxiously loud family haha.

What is your favorite holiday dessert?

Hands down chocolate cream pie or sugar cookies haha. I know that is super random, but I am awkwardly obsessed with chocolate cream pie, it has to be homemade though. Well as homemade as it can get. And my family always has the best sugar cookies that they only make around the holidays. OH WAIT! And to get a little conceited my gingersnap cookies. Cause I love gingersnaps. =]

What is your favorite tradition?

Christmas Eve at my Aunt’s house. It’s been a little different since my Memere passed away, but everyone still makes an effort to be there and enjoy each other. Also, the Yankee swap is hilarious every year with what people decide to get and how people decide to steal. =]

What tops your tree?

Currently in my apartment we have a scary and awkward pumpkin thing leftover from Halloween haha. Don’t ask me why it’s up there. But normally at my Mom’s we have this beautiful angel that goes on top that I am obsessed with. It’s so perfect and pretty, I kind of wish I could steal it. =P

Do you prefer giving or receiving?

Absolutely giving haha. When I was younger I used to beg to be the Santa that passed out all the presents. I love watching people open gifts and seeing their reactions, especially if they got something they love but weren’t expecting. Those are my favorite moments.

What is your favorite Christmas song?

A tie between Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Clause is Comin’ to Town and O Holy Night, I really like the Glee version of that song now too.

Candy canes, yuck or yum?

I love candy canes in things but I don’t enjoy just sucking on them haha. Unless they are like the sour jolly rancher kind. Then pass ‘em over!

Favorite Christmas Movie?

Miracle of 34th Street.

What do you leave for Santa?

Homemade cookies and carrots for the reindeer. Plus a glass of fat free milk. When I was 10 I was really worried about Santa’s health and wanted to help him out haha. I was such an odd kid.

Do you have a Christmas morning tradition?

My step sister and I used to get up, scream, run down the stairs see our parents sitting on the couch trying to get the video camera ready and Christmas music playing in the background. We would be like running in circles ready to give each other presents. We always open our stockings first and watching each other open one at a time. Yes, it takes a really long time but that’s the point. =]

Do you shop on-line or at the mall?

Both, I do a lot of online shopping. But when I am too lazy to pay shipping I brave the crowds and head to the outlets and the mall.

Christmas letter or Christmas card?

I love Christmas letters. They are so sincere and heartfelt because the person had to take the time to write them. That’s part of my Mom’s gift this year and I am really excited to see her reaction!

What do you guys do?
